Rivada Networks works with Federal, State and local governments and agencies to improve their communications and information technology infrastructures. Rivada Networks has assisted in several large scale communications projects ranging from emergency incident response to day-to-day communications networks operations and management. The following is a brief overview of some of the projects led by Rivada Networks.

1. Emergency Communications Networks in Incident Scene
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast region in late 2005. The hurricanes decimated communications networks in the Gulf States, severely degrading commercial networks. Rivada Networks was called upon to provide emergency communication capabilities to first responders in the Gulf States region. Rivada Networks mobilized several Rivada Networks Interoperable Communications Extension Systems (ICES) and provided an interoperable broadband communications network to the military/emergency responder community in the aftermath of the hurricanes.
Rivada Networks designed, integrated and maintained emergency communications systems for the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In response to the events of Hurricane Katrina, Rivada Networks supported the State of Louisiana, FEMA, and USNORTHCOM in the Gulf States region by providing interoperable broadband communications solutions, including cellular systems, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), satellite, and support services and equipment.
The communications systems consists of high-speed voice and data communications systems, cellular base stations, satellite backhaul systems, network routers, Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, IP gateways, and laptop and desktop computers, in deployable “fly away” packages to support emergency response and restoration efforts. Rivada Networks deployed and operated these networks for an extended period following the hurricanes, and provided broadband communications networks for the emergency responder community while the commercial networks were being restored. These systems are now supported at various FEMA regional locations in MERS units ready for future emergency response efforts.
Rivada Networks was awarded the Louisiana Civilian Service Medal by the Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard in recognition of Rivada Networks’ efforts in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
