Former NTIA Chief John Kneuer to Continue Promoting Innovation in Homeland Security in New Private Sector Role
Washington, DC – December 11, 2007 – Rivada Networks today announced that the Hon. John M.R. Kneuer (“NEW-er”) has joined the company as Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning and External Affairs.
Until November 2007, Kneuer served as the principal telecommunications policy adviser to President George W. Bush in his position as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Administrator of the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA). Kneuer is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on telecommunications policy and spectrum-based technologies.
In recent years, Kneuer worked closely with the US Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Communications Commission and state and local officials across the nation to develop solutions to the shortcomings in public safety communications systems. His new role at Rivada will enable him to promote the only interoperable, broadband solution that is available today, does not require new federal mandates or spectrum set-asides, and offers far greater range and capability at a fraction of the cost of any other solution available today.
“The most rewarding part of my public service was working with my Federal, State and local counterparts to identify advanced technical solutions to difficult communications challenges,” Kneuer said. “Joining Rivada Networks gives me the opportunity to continue to serve this important national and homeland security mission with the most advanced and efficient solution available.”
Prior to joining NTIA, Mr. Kneuer served as a Senior Associate at the law firm of Piper Rudnick in Washington, DC, providing regulatory and legislative representation to corporate clients in the telecommunications, defense, and transportation industries. From 1997 to1998, Mr. Kneuer served as the Executive Director for Government Relations at the Industrial Telecommunications Association, and prior to that as an Attorney-Advisor in the Commercial Wireless Division of the Federal Communications Commission. Mr. Kneuer received B.A. and J.D. degrees from the Catholic University of America. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
“John Kneuer brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our mission to improve emergency communications,” said Rivada Chairman and CEO Declan Ganley. “Our customers and business partners will benefit greatly from his insights and connections.”
