Mega-constellations Amazon Project Kuiper, Eutelsat OneWeb, Rivada Space Networks pitch their European bona fides

Three satellite broadband constellations that might have reason to fear being shut out of the European market for secure connectivity services said they are counting on the European Commission’s “open strategic autonomy” policy to allow them in.

Amazon’s Project Kuiper, Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Germany-based but U.S.-financed Rivada Space Networks on Oct. 25 made the case that they should play a role in Europe’s secure communications scenario even if the European Commission moves forward on its own satellite constellation.

In presentations at the European Space Forum 2022, held in Brussels, representatives of the three constellations stressed that in the telecom world, resilience means redundancy, having a backup ready in case of need.
